Back in the Bay

The start of daylight saving was the signal for the return of the regular Sunday morning swim from McCrae carpark to Anthonys Nose and back. Rhonda had been talking it up for months in the hope of a big turnout. On the day, 6 intrepid (some would say mad) Aquaholics took to the water.

At around 14 degrees it could not be classified as pleasant and it took a big effort to get the one's body and face in the water. Smooth conditions helped and the inaugural swim for the season was completed by Barry, Michael, Mark, Rhonda, Roz and Ian. It was great to catch up with a few more of the group who turned up at Blue Bay Cafe for cake and coffee. The Wednesday evening swim is also back on the agenda. See you there....

Laps in the kitchen

Group member Stuart is the local chef at 'Ten Minutes by Tractor' and was featured in a recent magazine article. Stuart never disappoints when it comes to our once a month 'Nibbly' night. We all look forward to some special treat that he has made, especially his vanilla or chocolate fudge...just what you need after a training session!

Aquaholics soak it up at Byron Bay

An enthusiastic group left at the beginning of May for the warmer climes of Byron Bay to participate in the Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic. Fortunately the weather was more kind to us than last year when the event was cancelled. As a consequence we had a much more comfortable swim. In my case, too comfortable. If I'd pushed a bit harder I might have done better than a second place in my age group. Well done to Donna who also grabbed a second place in her age group.

Overall everybody finished the course with creditable times, considering it is not our thing to train in an open ocean/ surf environment over that distance. Nobody played up too much, (that I know of ) so consequently you won't read about us in any of the tabloids.
